About Susan
Who I am
Hi there! I am originally from Venezuela and have been living in Canada since 2014. I started my journey in the field of counselling psychology in 2009 when I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Since then, I have continued to nurture my knowledge and experience in the field by completing postgraduate education (in Canada and abroad) and providing psychotherapy to diverse individuals.
My counselling experience is rich and varied. During my 10+ years of experience in the field, I have worked with individuals of various ages, and backgrounds. I have also supported people with different life challenges in private practice, non-profits, hospitals and at an elementary school. Since my mother tongue is Spanish, I also enjoy working with the Spanish-speaking community in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
I am a passionate and warm person and I show up in this way for my clients in our therapy sessions. I work from an attachment and a strength-based approach, where trust, safety, connection and hope are pillars of the therapy work. As a Latina woman, immigrant, and mother, I am also well aware of the challenges that certain populations experience in society. My experience in the field of counselling has also allowed me to witness the powerful positive impact that appropriate support can have on someone’s mental health and life, which has been a great motivating factor for me to continue working in this profession. I show up for my clients with genuine admiration for their bravery in seeking external support and the resilience that has kept them afloat during tough times.
It would be a pleasure to get to know you and support you during your counselling journey.
My Mission and Vision
Psychotherapy is my passion. I love providing support to adults but also to the little ones who often have a harder time processing the challenges of life. I believe that we all should have the opportunity to feel heard, validated and supported through our life struggles no matter our age, gender identity, ethnicity or religious background. I have chosen as my life mission to destigmatize counselling and counsellors, mental health struggles and reaching out for help. I do this by accompanying people throughout their journeys in psychotherapy, speaking openly about issues related to mental health and wellness in my day to day life and by reminding people to see emotional struggles for what they are; a natural part of the human experience.
